Elevators (Karl Schumacher)

All Karl Schumacher Elevators are sharpened by finishing the gouge 'from the top down', resulting in a very durable, thin and sharp leading edge. Most other manufacturers sharpen their Elevators by bevelling the bottom of the leading edge, resulting in a very sudden taper into a thick tip. It takes more skill to finish elevators this way and does make a difference.
 - Any of the Elevators can come serrated at no additional charge, just be sure to ask.

Posterior Flared Tip Elevators

(ELE0077R is the most popular Elevator, the thin serrated tip engages securely onto the mesial aspects of posterior teeth without stretching the patient's cheek. During application the tip 'pushes' the root structures up and out of the socket along the natural distally curving arc of the roots).

Beck Modified Elevators

Traditional elevators have a rounded backside, which allows the tip to rotate like a wheel. This only allows engagement and lift for the first 45 degree of elevation, at which point the edge will lose purchase from the tooth. Each bevel on the back of the Beck Elevators acts as its own fulcrum point, allowing the Beck Elevators continuous engagement past the first 45 degree of rotation. This special sharpening, coupled with a thin tip for access into tight interproximal areas, make the Beck Elevators extremely effective instruments for elevation, but they must only be used by rotating, not prying them.
